August 28th marked 1 year since we took possession of our 1960s retro fixer upper! Can you believe how fast time has gone? *looks around for where all that money went*. I thought it’d be fun to look at our mid century flip – one year in. To see how far we’ve come, what’s left to do, and what types of updates are really worth it in the long-run.
Our Retro House BEFORE
When we bought this house, we bought it for the character but also the possibility! As I’ve been saying since the get-go, we want to take this house from Mid Century, to Mid Century Modern, and that’s not something you do overnight.
Check out our intro post to our 1960s retro fixer upper, and take a quick tour to see what we started with.
Mid Century Modern Dining Room BEFORE & AFTER
We completed the mid century modern dining room this summer, shortly after completing the kitchen. The space utilizes different paint techniques, as well as large scale art and unique lighting choices to create a mid century vibe.
Check out the full reveal of the mid century modern dining room.
Mid Mod Living Room Before & After
This was the first space we completed in the new house, and it was shortly after moving in as part of the fall One Room Challenge. A solid shade of blue and structural furniture set the scene for the mid mod style.
Check out the Mid Mod Living Living Room and our spring gallery wall living room update to the space.
Retro Glam Kitchen BEFORE & AFTER
By far our biggest renovation to date, we completely overhauled our kitchen this spring as part of the One Room Challenge. We painted cabinets, build a banquette, redid the floors, countertops and backsplash, and so much more!
Check out more of the before photos for the kitchen, and then the completed retro glam kitchen.
Floral Glam Master Bedroom Before & After
This was one of our winter projects because it required less structural work, mainly just painting and decor. We kept the space white and went bold in the closet.
Check out the Floral Glam master bedroom before photos, and check out the full reveal of the glam bedroom.
We also did a summer master bedroom update.
Floral Glam Master Closet BEFORE & AFTER
The master closet gets its own shout-out because it’s just amazing! We went bold with the furniture and the wallpaper, and the end result is perfection. You can grab the tutorial for my black and white striped IKEA Dresser Hack and make one for yourself.
Check out the before photos and plans for how we transformed the closet, and catch the full floral glam closet reveal while you’re at it.
Pink Glam Office Before & After
This was another winter project because it revolved around paint! We painted the wood panelling and added some gam hardware to transform this space into my office before it became the nursery.
Check out the whole process, and the reveal including how to paint wood panelling the right way.
Colorful and Bright Nursery
This summer we transformed the office into a nursery with a fresh coat of paint in the back of the shelves, and added an IKEA closet to turn it into a bedroom.
Master Bathroom BEFORE & AFTER (on a budget)
We had planned to fully gut and renovate this space this summer, but we ended-up doing another series of spaces (which are almost completed). In the meantime, I did a quick update using some paint, lighting and new hardware.
The after of our budget friendly bathroom update really takes the space in a fun direction, one that Dan would not have taken if this was the permanent reno.
Backyard Patio BEFORE & AFTER
The final space we got to before the year was up, was the backyard patio. We have plans to re-grade the space and do some landscaping, but this is how far we got with our very late spring. Big plans for next summer!
Powder Room BEFORE & AFTER
We technically finished this project in mid august, but it was only unveiled last week as part of the Primp & Pamper bathroom challenge. We tore down the laundry room configuration and built the powder room from scratch. Love it?
Catch the full reveal of the tiny and colourful powder room.
Spaces In The Works
We’ve got the the laundry room and the entryway in the works, and we’ll finish unveiling them soon enough! After that we’ve got more sedate plans for the winter, and probably won’t start the next renos until Spring 2020 once our bank accounts and life have recovered.
As you know, we also welcomed our baby girl on August 26th, so we need a breather!

I have enjoyed all the transformations! You have done more in a year than we have done in 10, but you inspire me to keep going 🙂
