Small Bathroom reveal

February 8, 2016~ bathroom

Here it is. Finally. I couldn’t have dragged my feet anymore. The bathroom pink wall reveal! For those of you struggling with small bathrooms, take note: one bright and vibrant accent wall is all you need to bring a space to life.

bathroom wall

I’ve been teasing you guys with pictures of the pink wall and the accompanying design details on Facebook, snap chat, and instagram.

Since the day we moved in I have hated the tile in the shower. It’s a horrid colour and I can’t do anything about it. It’s so bad in fact, it has deterred me from doing anything about the bathroom until now.

How did it all start though? and why o why o why did I pick such a vibrant pink?

Well, one of my new years resolutions was to add more colour to our lives, and one of the blankest slates in our PMQ is the bathroom, so why not start there?

This bathroom is mercifully bigger than our last one, but still not a big space. I have two walls to work with, so I opted for the one that would create the biggest bang for my 10$. I chose the wall that receives natural light, and has the best spaces for design touches to complement the colour.

It really started with the colour: I’ve had a burning desire to use a raspberry purple/pink for a while now, but it’s too loud for a bedroom or a hallway, and after a tour through the paint section at Home Depot (which is something normal people do, right?) I fell in love with Racer Pink in the Ralph Lauren collection.

Two paint samples and some conniving (DH needed to be swayed) later, and there I was! Taping my bathroom wall.

Once the colour was on the walls I immediately knew that my Alice in Wonderland print from Rifle Paper co. would be perfect for the space. After moving it around a couple of times it found a home behind the toilet with the candles and bath salts.

My bathroom prints from Janet Hill studio sit above the countertop, and are perfectly meta. They’re little vignettes into such interesting worlds, not to mention her wallpaper choices are always spot on.

The super delightful and spooky man in green was a last minute addition and made me re-think the set-up. I had originally styled the space with tulips, but I wasn’t able to shoot the space during the daytime, and pretty soon they were dead and I needed a new option

I’m also currently doing a home stage for a client (Which coupled with my new job is sucking away all my time), and during a shopping trip I stumbled across this bust in Homesense. He called to me from across the store, and when I rounded the corner in the decor section I knew it was meant to be. I’ve managed to terrify and annoy DH with him. He’ll stay there for now, or until DH breaks him.

I also took the occasion to swap out the cabinet and drawer knobs for these fun hexagonal knobs from Threshold (for Target). The brassy round ones weren’t cutting it for me, and they certainly weren’t complimentary to the pink wall.

bathroom light

I’m sure you’ve seen the many drum shades around our PMQ, or maybe even seen my post, but I make a habit of replacing ugly boob ceiling lights with drum shades. The bathroom would not escape its fate. I replaced the ceiling light with this fun grey one. It happens to match our shower curtains.

shower curtains

That’s right, you heard me. Shower curtains – plural. There’s no way of showing you what I’m tailing about without giving away the horribly tiles and ruining the illusion, so bear with me.

We have two identical shower curtains and I use them to frame the shower much like curtains would a window. The two curtains add so much drama to the space, and are super useful for keeping the rest of the bathroom dry. I’ve even got two brassy tie-backs to keep them in place when not in use.

bathroom curtain We have a small and high window in the bathroom. The view is mostly obscured by the tree in our front yard, and given its height you’re not likely to see much ;).

However, there are some moments when you want that extra privacy and for that, we’ve got the roman shade. I had two of these in our kitchen in the last PMQ

bathroom

Last but not least in our bathroom tour extraordinaire, you have the little cameos I bought at the Great Glebe Garage Sale this past spring.

And there you have it folks. Our bold, beautiful and very colourful bathroom.

If you were only living in a house for another year or two, what ridiculous colour would you paint a wall in our bathroom?

Let me know in the comments! I’ve got another two or three walls to paint and welcome suggestions.
