Welcome to the inaugural post in the #12monthsofDIY series! Myself and 11 other bloggers are sharing our take on the mason jar this month. I’ve created a mason jar hot toddy kit that will make the perfect hostess gift, pick-me up or last minute gift.
I’ve used mason jars for a couple of different crafts already (spice rack, peppermint vodka, are the most popular), but with 11 other bloggers likely thinking along similar lines I wanted to bring the jar back to its roots: as a container.
A hot toddy is the perfect cocktail for early winter months, after all the glitz and glam of the holiday season has passed and you’ve had your fill of eggnog, hot chocolate, and baileys. The spices and whisky bring a nice little warming feeling to cocktail hours. The disco balls are just for fun!
This little mason jar hot toddy kit is super easy to assemble and would be a great thing to enjoy after a day on the slopes or snowmobiling.
In my mason jar hot toddy kit I’ve included a little sample of Johnnie Walker, a pack of pre-mixed hot toddy spices (on sale at Home Outfitters – hurry while you can), two coasters, two straws and some disco balls to help get the party started.
And there you have it! All you need for a mason jar hot toddy.
If you can’t get your hands on a hot toddy mix from Kitchen gourmet, you can make your own spice mix using the following ingredients and recipe:
Pour honey (1tsp), boiling water, and whiskey (1.5oz) into a mug. Spice it with 3 whole cloves and 1 cinnamon stick, and garnish with a slice of lemon. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes so the flavors can mingle, then sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg before serving.
Live boldly and enjoy hot toddies!

It’s just fun to say Hot Toddy! I bet it’s even more fun to drink one… getting cozy from the inside out! I’ve never tried one, gotta get on that.

I love how you used the mason jar as a container for a very important purpose. I remember having a Hot Rum Toddy when i had a really bad cold and it sure took away some of the discomfort. What a fun gift to put together and give! So creative!

Just what the doctor ordered for these cold winter nights! I can see these as a great hostess gift for a tobogganing party or for my fellow curlers at a bonspiel.

The other day I overheard a co-worker mention a ‘Hot Toddy’ and I thought: “I need to look up how to make myself one of those.” Perfect timing! Must be a sign that I need to try one this weekend:)
