If you’re joining me from A Pop of Pretty, Brooklyn Berry Designs,Sharon Joyce Interiors, Rambling Renovators or Kim Power Style – welcome! You are probably in for a shock. I used a lot of colour.
My name is Ariel and I am a Canadian military spouse making each of our base housing units, a home! I offer accessible and affordable, home decor and DIYs. It’s like a whole other blog post!
This year’s theme is understated minimal and colourful. I’ve added a few hints of fall with beaded glass pumpkins, sheepskins, DIY Decoupage Pumpkins, beautiful fall florals, my DIY Modern & Moody fall wreath, and lots of blankets!
*O’verlays provided product for review, but all thoughts are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that make PMQ for two possible.
1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 (The pumpkin)
When you walk through the front door, the first thing you see is a pair boots. There’s even usually a pair of combat boots strewn on the mat preventing the door from opening, but for the shoot DH was kind enough to put them away.
I’ll have a tutorial for the painted Fall pumpkin on the blog Friday, so make sure you swing back then to check it out!
Next to the entryway is our console table where we usually dump everything as soon as we walk in. I had to fight with the pets and DH to keep it clean enough for photos.
Remember my DIY Vintage Hotel Guest Keys? You can read about that DIY // here // Well I redid them when we moved, and opted for a glossy black tag and left our address off this time.
If you continue through the house you’ve got the kitchen on the left. This space hasn’t really been featured on the blog yet, and that’s mainly because I’m not sure if I’m going to repaint it first. You can read about our paint selection process and choices //here //
I’ve chosen to hang our wreath above the kitchen sink. This way I get to see it more often and it’s not going to fly off the front door in a gust of wind. Because the season is changing, I usually move items around and these little chinoiserie vases got moved to the window ledge along with a delicious candle and some little pumpkins.
The pink pig is a hoot and a half! I had been chasing this guy since our HHT, but I balked at him when he was full price. I eventually snagged him this summer for like 70% off and it was fate. I added a foulard, because why not!
P.S. Mrs. Meyers Clean Day is coming to Canada this January. Do you guys remember them from the days of Target?! I do! I’m beyond excited for their return.
This is usually the time of year when I start baking again after a summer when it’s too hot to turn on the oven. I made my favourite pumpkin spice muffins, and you can find my recipe // here // and if you’re intrigued by the pink plates you can find that tutorial // here //
Fun fact, our kitchen has a peninsula that separates it from the “entryway corridor” we’ve created, and that looks onto the family room. You’ll usually find me there, snacking on something and watching TV while flipping through my IG feed, or while cooking dinner.
Nowadays, I’ve got a beautiful arrangement on our coffee table.
If you missed my tutorial on creating a DIY Fall Floral Arrangement you can check it // here // It’s a different arrangement, but the same principles still apply.
When I first unveiled our family room back in August // here // I mentioned that our built ins weren’t quite done. Well, with the help of O’verlays we’re at half way there!
“O’verlays are lightweight, decorative fretwork panels that come in several patterns and sizes. They are paintable and easily attach to furniture, mirrors, walls and glass. Customize your furniture and accessories with O’verlays® or use O’verlays Kits sized to fit many of IKEA and other popular furniture.”
I chose their Xandra pattern // here // for our doors because of the classic, timeless look they provide. To see them completely finished, you’ll have to wait a few more months.
In the meantime, the O’verlays added some instant colour once spray-painted, and helped make the Billy system feel less cookie cutter.
I am forever changing our bookshelf styling, and fall is no exception. Not only are there mini pumpkins everywhere, but I’ve added a decoupage floral pumpkin and some beautiful fall pinks and purples in the flowers.
The middle, lower shelves are paired-down and low key with a gourd here, a pumpkin there. On the other tower bookshelf we’ve got a similar look with more florals and pumpkins.
And what space would be complete without a pet? Specifically, the Boots, lounging and looking adorable as all hell on our club chair.
I don’t do much to the couch for fall either, I don’t add tons of pillows, in fact I usually take away a few pillows and add some blankets instead.
And there you have it! That’s all folks!

LOVE the entry and the painted pumpkin you created for it! that is my favorite shot of the space! and i love that fox art, too… foxy.
Thank you 🙂 I feel like our styles intersect the most right there in my entryway. The painted pumpkin tutorial was another case of trial and error. My first attempt was a little wonky, hence the colour smears beneath the final product. Can’t wait to get that post up!
Love all the colors. Looking forward to reading the painted pumpkin article. Looks great!
Thank you Angie! I’ll shoot you the link Friday morning!
Your painted and decoupaged pumpkins are so awesome, they fit perfectly into your space adding just the right touch of fall. I absolutely adore those french poodle napkins, they are so cute!!!!
I thrifted those napkins at the Sussex Flea back in August! 2$ !!!!! They’re perfect for muffins I think. Thank you for such kind words about the pumpkins 🙂
So much eye candy in this post!! Love the painted and decoupaged pumpkins. Your floral arrangements are on point 😉 And yay for making use of the Mrs. Meyers!
Thanks friend! I try 😉
Someone actually sent me a message asking if I was jumping ship from the “more is more is more” school of design, and I had to reassure her that no, this is just how I do fall!
I am totally in love with your style. That painted pumpkin is just perfection!:)
Thank you! I’ll send you the link once the pumpkin tutorial is up!
It’s probably no surprise that I love all of your blue and white porcelain pieces, especially that umbrella holder! And those rugs, gorgeous! Also like the addition of the HBC scarf- so Canadiana!
No surprise, but a welcome compliment. I think the chinoiserie is where our styles intersect 🙂
It’s actually a full on blanket! One of the many we received for our wedding a few years ago.
Hi Ariel! I love the painted and decoupaged pumpkins! Your use of color is refreshing. Can’t wait to see how those built-ins turn out.
Thank you for saying that Emy. I’ll keep you in the loop when they’re done!
Ariel I absolutely love your style and I love that you shop the thrift stores too. I saw many treasures during your tour! Lovely home, thanks for sharing it.
Thank you Heather, that’s a great compliment actually! Not only are the coolest things in thrift stores, but I couldn’t buy half the stuff I thrift! It’s a win win situation!
Yours was the home tour I was most looking forward to and you did not disappoint! It’s not easy to decorate with lots of colour and not end up with a house that looks like smeared clown’s makeup – damn girl, you blend all the hues so well!!!
My thrift shop sista! Yes! I love it all and your use of colour as usual, is totally on point. Great job girl!
You know me, thrift till I die! Thanks for stoping by 😉
That painted pumpkin! I’m in love!
That painted pumpkin! I’m in love!
Thanks girl! I’ll shoot you the link for the pumpkin tutorial when it goes live!
Oh, this is fresh and pretty! I love all the bright colours and that painted pumpkin!! Oh my. Thanks for being a part of this tour, Ariel!
Thank you Christina! I wanted to take it down a notch from the summer look and experience a few months with paired-down decor before the arrival and explosion of Christmas in a few short weeks!
You had me at hello pink Hunter Boots!! I loved all the colour Ariel and those painted pumpkins are so pretty. Beautiful use of PMQ space! My daughter and her hubby are just moving out of theirs. 🙂
I think I had most people at “painted pumpkin” hahahaha I’m glad the pink boots did it for you! But is it really any surprise that I have pink AND red rainboots?!
I KNEW that this home tour would be amazing! LOVE what you do girl! Those painted pumpkins are unreal.
I can’t believe there was actual anticipation! Woohoo!
Thanks friend 🙂 warm fuzzier all around
Love the blue and white, the layering and those cupcakes look delicous!!! XX
Thanks friend! It’s all in the layers and the colours!
You have a great home and the colors are so vibrant! I love your cat! My cats are always jumping into my photos as well.
Maria
Thanks Maria! My cats and dog are frequently running through the photos. I love it, and think it adds a touch of the personal the posts. Thanks for stopping by!
This is way too pretty to be military housing! What you’ve done with it is amazing!
It’s all a beautiful illusion ain’t it?! Sometimes I can’t even believe it’s military housing 😉
This is so amazing! Love the colors! They are so vibrant!
Thanks Sara!
Beautiful! Love all of the color and that decoupaged pumpkin is AWESOME!!
Thank you Jennifer! Did you get a chance to check-out that tutorial?
I’m not really a colour girl, but I sure loves yours. Your so good at it, and it makes me smile. Beautiful job.
I know you’re not, which is why that compliment means a lot 🙂 Thanks friend!
Thank you for welcoming us in to your beautiful home! I love the way you use color throughout. It all works so well.
Well thank you for coming by! 😉
LOVE this tour, Ariel! Your colors are incredible and you have all the right amounts of whimsy in here! Beautiful!
Thank you Brynne 🙂 That’s exactly what I wanted to hear!
Beautiful home Ariel! I am a big fan of colour, so I’m loving everything you have done here! I especially love your painted fall pumpkins…adorable!
Thank you so much Jo-Anna! Huge compliments coming from you 🙂
I love all of the bright colors you use! Also, that tiny blue detail on those cabinet doors is perfection 🙂
Isn’t it great?! The O’verlays are such a great product, and I love that I get to paint them whatever colour I want!
Gorgeous, Ariel! Your painted and decoupaged pumpkins are so lovely – I might try my hand at that this weekend! I love your eclectic and colourful style – so fun!
Thanks Tara! Let me know how they turn out
You definitely know how to do colour and pattern right, Ariel! Gorgeous home! I’m amazed at how you make it all work together.
Thank you so much sonja 🙂 Sometimes I’m a little amazed too!
Wow, Ariel! I love all your use of colour! It has such a cozy, fall, boho chic feel!! Fabulous job!
Thank you Krista! Cozy and colourful is what I was aiming for!
There are so many lovely, personalized, colourful touches in your home Ariel. It’s really special. I want to know what the pets are leaving on the console table that you had to fight with them about though? 😉 And oh, the combat boots! My hubs just HAS to leave his shoes right inside the door so the door gets stuck on them if I come home after him. What’s that about?
Jo
Thank you Joann, that means a lot.
The cats are actually leaving pet fur and their pet mice (stuffed mice from Ikea’s toy section) as an offering! Bruce just leaves nose juice smears all of the place, I mean, there’s so much to explore!
I don’t know what it is about the shoes! gaaaah
Ariel – you have such a great way of mixing colors. Your home looks so personal, I would never believe you just moved in.
Thank you Brooke 🙂 I’ve got that eye for colour, that’s for sure! You would make it feel like home too if you knew you’d be out of here in 3 years. I always want to maximize the amount of time I feel like I’m “home”
Beautiful Ariel! I love that pillow in the last photo especially! Pinning!
You have a beautifully decorated home! You’re right, that pink pig is awesome – great steal at 70% off!
Thank you 🙂 I spend a lot of time making it feel like ours, and little touches go a long way!
Ariel, your hone is just lively! I particularly like that painted fall pumpkin. Beautiful!
Thank you Sarah! Did you check-out the tutorial for the painted pumpkin?
Beautiful! Love your fall colors. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for helping with the decor 😉
Love the reds and blues. Such a beautiful color combo for fall! Awesome home tour. Pinned!
I think the pink is an added layer to the red and blue and makes it all tie together with the orange beautifully.
GIRL, you have some MAD talent. Your home is so cool, hip and colorful. And that FALL pumpkin I’ve been drooling over for a week, please send it to me! LOL It’s amazing….
