Peppermint Vodka

November 2, 2015~ Cocktails, recipe

This holiday season I’m participating in a DIY gift blog hop! Hooray! Every monday until December, myself and the Canadian Home Decor and DIY bloggers will be sharing a DIY gift for the holiday season. They’ll be small, hostess appropriate gifts that you can make easily.

peppermint vodka

Let’s be honest, you probably have a million and one holiday parties and events lined-up, so instead of buying your standard box of chocolates we thought we’d show you what you could make!

My gift idea this week is peppermint vodka in a jam jar. We gave these last year as a gift to all of our friends in time for the holidays. Think of the possibilities! Candy cane martinis, spiked peppermint hot chocolate, the list goes on!

peppermint vodka supplies

Materials

  • Vodka – I bought a bottle of Absolute to make about 20 little jars
  • 6 Oz Large Hexagon Glass Jars – 12 pack
  • Peppermint Extract
  • Decorative ribbon
  • Mccormick Red Color, 1-Ounce (optional)

Instructions

Step 1:  Pour two ounces of vodka into a clean Bernadin jar. You can add more of less depending on how generous you feel as a gift giver. I usually make the allotted amount that I need to, and if there’s any leftover vodka after I’ll divy it up between the jars.

Step 2: Add once teaspoon of peppermint extract to the vodka. I find 1 tsp is strong enough for 2 ounces of vodka. If you add significantly more vodka make sure you increase the peppermint extract.

If you’re adding red food colouring this is the time to do it.

Step 3 : Seal with a bow!

If you got one of these last year or are getting one of these this year you are a lucky duck.

Hint! Someone please give me a delightfully alcoholic christmas gift.

I remember making this years ago. But we sure made it a lot harder with having it sit for weeks to cure. This is brilliant!

I am this week’s feature on the @littleyellowcou I am this week’s feature on the @littleyellowcouch podcast and I gotta say - FAN 👏🏻 GIRL 👏🏻 MOMENT. I had been listening since there were 2 hosts, and really got into it when I went full time with the blog during our first year posted to Gagetown. I found my colourful voice, and started making things like this beautiful glossy blue sideboard.
There wasn’t really anyone else doing “colour” my way in the decor space at that time (everything was white farmhouse). And while there are definitely many more who do it now (and who do it better!), I’ll never forget the freedom I felt when no one was watching what I did. It has been so incredibly bittersweet watching new accounts lap me in a matter of months (and oh so humbling), but I like to think I’m exactly where I need to be.
My growth has been slow by today’s standards, and I’m ok with it. I still get to do what I love.
So, if you’ve been following me since then, the very beginning, or last week - stick around! Let’s see what the next stage is like.

I think we’ve all been feeling a little powerles I think we’ve all been feeling a little powerless these days, but @laybabylay made a great point in her stories the other day: you can always do something nice. You can buy the order of the person in line behind you at the drivethru. You can donate to charitable organizations doing things you believe in. You can make a meal for your neighbour who might be having a hard time with lockdown. It’s amazing how much better I feel when I do something nice, and I bet you will too ❤️

“Life is what happens when you’re busy making “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans” - John Lennon. 😎 As a family who moves a lot, we’re ready for a new chapter/ new house, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to leave all the memories! We brought June home here 😭 she learned to walk here, and said her first words here. I wonder what other “firsts” she’ll have before we move. [pictured, June in a messy kitchen last year]
