Living Room Update

Earlier this spring we continued with our mission to update the flooring in our home. We took down the wrought iron panels, re-worked the floor plan, and laid beautiful Golden Select Flooring in Sandstone, from end to end.

* Golden Select sponsored this post, but all thoughts are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that make PMQ for two possible.

Why has it taken so long to reveal the space? We were waiting on the final piece! an accent chair.

I recently scored the perfect piece for our living room – an Eames reproduction chair with foot stool. We had plans to buy one in the fall, but this one came up on the Facebook Marketplace for a good price, so we jumped.

Living Room BEFORE Golden Select Flooring

Not bad! not bad! It was the space I first completed in this house, and it’s the one we spend many evenings in. The first iteration was for the fall 2018 One Room Challenge, and then I re-worked some things when I created the gallery walls you see below.

It also had awful floors. The yellow in them is throwing off the mustard gold of the chairs.

Yes, there’s hardwood. BUT, only within 3 feet of the walls, and at the centre of the room was plywood. Why? Because when people built homes here back in the 60s, they figured there would always be giant rugs to cover 90% of the room.

Golden Select Flooring

We first put Golden Select Flooring in our mid century modern dining room, and then the hallway when we did the butterfly entryway, so it was finally time to do the living room!

We continue to chose Golden Select flooring for a few reasons: cost, quality, durability, ease of install.

I’ve covered all of these points and more in my other posts, so in this one, I’ll let the pics of the beautiful flooring do the talking.

Don’t forget about the 24hr splash shield! June drops cups of water all the time, and I’m not worried that it will damage the flooring.

Living Room AFTER Golden Select Flooring

We reworked the floor plan to allow for a better flow. June isn’t a smiling potato anymore, so it made sense to make it easier for her to run around and play with us.

We added slim profile LED lights (instead of just task lighting), moved the TV to above the fireplace, and added a play area for June.

The MCM montessori shelf that Dan built, holds June’s “flavour of the day” toys, and we’ve got her plushies over on the mini MCM table set.

We brought the record player up from the basement, so now we get to enjoy the records instead of having to hang in the dungeon basement.

When we moved the TV to above the fireplace, we moved the console over to the wallpaper wall. It freed up that original wall! So I repurposed my DIY picture ledges from our last PMQ.

I painted them white and am using them to display fun album artwork. You may have seen me thrifting fun albums over the summer, and this is what it was for!

I can’t get over how sexy this chair is. It’s the perfect addition to the space. Now if only I could find a way to cleverly disguise all the cords involved in our TV situation…

And you betcha we moved the rug from the dining room to the living room. I like it here for now, but only until I find the rug I really want, and then it’s going back.

So there you have it! Our living room update.
