JB’s playhouse transformation is essentially the cutest thing on the internet, and it wouldn’t be complete without a flag or two! Her model fo playhouse came with two flag poles, so we made our own custom ones using craft foam and our Cricut Joy.

Playhouse Flags

I spent a bit of time googling the ins and outs of pennants, but it’s honestly quite simple. Most of my time was spent looking for inspiration on styling and wording. 

I was super inspired by these ones.

DIY foam pennant

I used craft foam instead of felt for these for a few reasons:

• felt isn’t recommended for outdoor use
• I could use regular vinyl on foam (instead of HTV)
• it would hold a form more easily, and for longer. 

I got these sheets of 12×24″ foam at Michael’s for a dollar or two each, and the Cricut Joy was the perfect size to use for the width of these pennants.

You’ll also need permanent vinyl, the Joy sized cutting mats, a fabric wheel, a cutting mat, Cricut Tools, scissors, a wood dowel, and a hot glue gun.

Cutting the flag

The easiest part. Cutting one pennant from a sheet essentially creates three pennants. I used one we already had as a guideline, to trace and then cut using the fabric wheel.

I saved the design I used, including the exact dimensions for these flags, right here in the design space.

I managed to get both designs printed on the same sheet, I just had to flip it upside down. I LOVE that I can do that with the Joy.

Using your Cricut transfer tape and the applicator tool, apply, remove and transfer the design to your felt flag.

I added a strip of white vinyl along the long end to help frame it a bit. It’s optional though.

Making the playhouse flag sturdy

You can just glue the foam to the dowel and call it a day. However, it will only look good from one side, and it won’t be very sturdy.

Before you glue the dowel into place, add two little sets of foam bunny ears. Hot glue is all you need.

I used an extra piece of foam to create a pocket for the dowel. I glued one side down, inserted the dowel (added a bead of glue) and then sealed the other side.

It all worked-out beautifully, no!? I made two, one for each side of the playhouse.
