Our Tinsel Christmas Tree

It’s that wonderful, beautiful time of year again – the My Home Style Christmas Tree tour, hosted by Stephanie of Casa Watkins Living. This year I’m sharing our Tinsel Christmas Tree, currently set-up in JB’s colourful nursery.

Check out last year’s Retro Ceramic Christmas Tree Display as part of the tour

Bring pastels and vintage charm to a tinsel chrismas tree, using simple and clean ornaments. Sprinkle teddy bears and toys with boys for a nursery charm.

Please note and adore that JB is staring at Boots with the biggest smile on her face. She looooves her kitty.

She clearly has mixed thoughts about this person photographing her, especially because she’s wearing a frilly dress and laying on a blue rug. I think we’d all have questions.

Tinsel Christmas Tree

This silver tree was a local purchase from a friend who was looking to lighten her load of vintage Christmas decor. It was kind of fun to assemble, and I could probably make a new one having seen how it all goes together. There may be a new tutorial hitting the blog.

Don’t mind us, just being #extra next to an Anthropologie worthy Christmas display.

Retro and Vintage Christmas Ornaments

In the past year, I’ve decided to keep the trees themselves simple – balls or tear drops only. By using a paired-down style and focusing on colors instead of shapes, I achieve a far more era appropriate look, and get to create a color story of my choosing.

I Instead, I opted to display the more personal and unique ornaments in a bowl. I want to be able to touch them, feel them, and remember all the memories they hold. In the case of JB’s nursery, I’ve got them sprinkled throughout her shelving.

Tree Skirt Displays

I used the tree skirt I sewed last year, and although we’re not giving JB any gifts this year  – she’ll be 4 months old – I did wrap giant bows around several of her toys, and nest them in and amongst some boxes.

I think an equally important part of a Christmas tree display, is what’s going on beneath it. I usually keep it simple, but in the case of a whimsical nursery, I felt the addition of the stuffed animals was totally appropriate.
