Colourful & Eclectic Christmas Tree

Welcome to my penultimate house tour! I’ve got one more slatted for tomorrow as part of the Eclectic Homes Christmas Tour. Today though, all eyes are on our tree for the My Home Style Blog Hop – Christmas Tree Edition. We’re doing something a little different this year for the tree, and I kinda love it! Although I do wish I had a white tree, but that’s a battle for another year.

We got our beautiful Douglas Fir from a local tree Farm (Lo-Hi Christmas Tree Farm) after having taken our Christmas card photos out at their tree farm // here // I hinted at our tree in yesterday’s Canadian Bloggers Christmas Home Tour  // here // as it’s placed in our dinning room. I would love a white tree, but DH is a stickler for green, and I should probably let him win at least one decor-related battle a year.

We were posted this summer, and in the ensuing move it looks like a large box of ornaments was misplaced. At first I thought it was just our large box of coloured balls (all pink from last year // here //) but after going through all our boxes it looks like a few of our nicer pieces went missing too. I was able to recover by purchasing some news ones for our garland on the mantel // here //, but for our tree I knew this was an occasion to start over.

After seeing a large boxed collection of ball ornaments while at Target a few weeks ago, I knew the direction we needed to go in. I knew pink, purple, burgundy, green and light blue were in the cards (because they’re everywhere else) but I was glad I was able to translate that over to the tree.

So using that large box of ornaments as the unifying palette for our tree, I added-in our precious ornaments. We’ve got some beautiful DIY ornaments like my salt dough moose, some mod podge heart ornaments from our second Christmas, as well as the bottle brush animals I’ve collected since then, not to mention my glass ornaments of all kinds.

When it came time to photographing the tree in all its ornamental glory I opted for a nighttime shoot because it’s how I prefer it – glowing in the dark, illuminating all our ornaments in ways we can’t see during the day.

There are a few homages to DH on the tree like his Batman ornament, or the Star Wars characters floating around, as well our Flying Spaghetti Monster tree toper which DH created for our first tree. May his noodly appendage touch you.

I’ve had this peace ornament since university. I originally hung it in my window as a chime, but over the years not wanting to lose it, I’ve decided to add ribbon and put it on our tree.

You can start to see our tree skirt below! This is part of my last edition of #12monthsofDIY which goes live this evening! So be sure to check back for it.

And there you have it! My colourful and eclectic tree composed mainly of sap and ball ornaments with whatever remaining precious baubles we have left!
