This summer I gave you the TGIF series, but this holiday season I’m giving you wreaths galore! I’ve got 4 wreaths planned between now and early December – so one a week. I’m kicking things off with something I’ve wanted to do for a while – a gold leaf magnolia wreath. I spotted a laurel style wreath on Pinterest last Christmas and fell in love with it. This year I knew I needed it in my home, so I made one to hang in the bedroom.

As you can see Christmas is starting to roll in. I’m adding small touches room by room, I don’t want it to be overwhelming, but I’m also not going to be here for most of December, so I want to enjoy it a little bit.
These little sisal trees have become my favourite decor item for Christmas and it’s easy to see why – they’re colourful, glam, and blend right in with the rest of my decor.
Materials for a Gold Leaf Magnolia Wreath
- Metallic Gold Magnolia Leaf Sprig 30″
- Embroidery Hoop
- Floral Wire
- Tin Snips
- Velvet Ribbon
Step 1: Start by removing the magnolia leaves from the springs. Try and keep the wire tail on them so that it can help bind them to the wreath.
Step 2: Lay-out the leaves in the shape of a laurel so that you can see how you’ll assemble it. It decided to gradate the size of the leaves
Step 3: Using your floral write, start attaching the leaves to the hoop in a symmetrical pattern. I did one leaf on each side before moving up a rung in the pattern.
Step 4: Keep going until you hit the top of the hoop. At that point, you should be using the leaves to tip the design upwards. It’s part of getting the laurel look.
For those last leaves at the top I actually stapled them to the leaves behind them so that they would keep their angle.
Step 5: Add a little velvet bow to cove the stems and wire from the first leaves. You can do any kind of bow or loop, but I like the good ole’ fashioned kentucky ribbon.
Now that you’ve got your wreath – which really isn’t that complicated, it’s time to hang it and style it on your home!
I chose to place the Gold Leaf Magnolia Wreath in the bedroom because I think it’s discreet enough to not overtake the bedroom (which is usually an a-seasonal space), but still bring some cheer.
I am also totally jonesing over my little dog figurine with a feather wreath collar. I mean, how cute is that?!
