Boozy Popsicles

Do you remember running to the corner store on those hot summer days, with 75c jingling in your pocket, on your way to buy a jumbo popsicle? I made a series of boozy popsicles in the following flavours: Gin & Tonic, Black Cherry & Rum, and Old fashioned Rosemary Pink Lemonade. The best part is, you can too!

Others in the series

Maple Whisky Milkshake  // Chocolate & Coffee Icecubes // Spicy Pomegranate Margarita // Pink Pearl // Peach & Honey Moscow Mule // London Lemonade // Blackberry Mint Julep // Bacon & Green Bean Ceasar

Making happy hour that much more special, with your own customizable boozy popsicles. I made G&T, Black Cherry & Rum, & Rosemary Pink Lemonade versions.

This is dead-ass simple as far as cocktail gimmicks go, and you could even make this more healthy by not loading them with spirits ahaha. You could make your own little healthy smoothie freezies, or just use them for gatorade. Either way, you should put that mixologist cap on, and see what cocktail freezies you can come up with!

Boozy Popsicles Recipes

  • 8 Gin & Tonic freezies: 4 oz. of Gin and 2 cans of tonic water, lemon triangles
  • 8 Black Cherry & Rum freezies: 4 oz. of White Rum and 2 bottles of Dark Cherry Soda
  • Pink lemonade and a sprig of rosemary
  • Zipzicle Zip-Top Ice Pop Pouch, 36-Pack <– the popsicle bags!
  • Large measuring glass with pour spout

*Mix each cocktail in a large measuring glass. It will make pouring them and keeping track of them easier.

Gin & Tonic Boozy Popsicles

Step 1: Pour 4oz of gin and 2 cans of tonic into a large measuring glass and stir.

Step 2:  Add a few little triangles of lemon to each pouch. You could also just add some lemon juice or zest, but I thought the wedges looked chic.

Step 3: Fill the bag to the line.

Black Cherry & Rum Popsicles

Step 1: Pour 4oz of White Rum and 2 bottles of Black Cherry soda into a large measuring glass and stir.

Step 2: Pour into pouches up to the line.

Rosemary Pink Lemonade Popsicles

Step 1: Remove a few Rosemary leaves from a sprig to insert into each pouch.

Step 2: Pour in pink lemonade.

Now these boozy popsicles are ready for the freezer! I carefully wiped the pouches down before putting them upright in the freezer. I wanted to make sure there was no sticky left-overs from the cocktails as I poured them into the pouches.

I froze them upright to ensure the air bubbles were all at the top, and to avoid any leaking or spilling (just in case). I used a large tupperware and it did the trick. These took about 4hrs to freeze solid.

Decorating Your Popsicle Sleeves

If you want to decorate the cocktail freezies’ pouches like I did you can do so using vinyl scraps and left-overs from previous projects. I tried to chose colours that would look cohesive and actually seemed to go with the cocktail they were adorning.

My Cricut Explore Air 2 was needed for the Rosemary Pink Lemonade label, otherwise I used existing cuts and my trimmer to do the rest.

I also used some of my Expressions Vinyl stash for this project. Last summer after using it for my Vinyl Otomi Chargers // here //, I had a bunch of sheets and rolls leftover, so I figured it was about time I use them!

Materials

Gin & Tonic Popsicle Sleeve

Step 1: Using the trimmer, cut 1″ strips in blue and gold

Step 2: Apply a blue strip on a diagonal across the bottom of the pouch. *I started with gold on the next pouch, and then just alternated.

Step 3: Apply a 1″ gap above the blue stripe and then apply the gold. Alternate until the top of the pouch.

Step 4: Trim any excess and avoid cutting the pouches.

Black Cherry & Rum Popsicle Sleeve:

I applied leftovers from my Atomic Starburst Ornament // here //

Rosemary Pink Lemonade Sleeve

Step 1: Using Photoshop I created my own file using the Lucemita font, found in my Tropical Party Paper Finishes post // here //.

Step 2: I uploaded the file to the Design Space as a cut file. If you’re unsure how to do that, check out my tutorial // here //

Step 3: Cut the file using black permanent vinyl, and apply.

Now that all the DIYs are out of the way, time to sit back and enjoy your Cocktail freezies! I’m having a little get together for some incoming spouses tonight, so I’ll be serving these as well as the non-popsicle versions to my guests.
