I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of friends having babies right now. It’s that season of life, and other than gift cards to the drug store and a place that delivers, sometimes it’s nice to offer an actual gift. In the past year alone I’d need like like two hands to count the number of babies born or announced. That’s a lot of baby showers and gender reveal parties, and omg it makes my head hurt and my wallet ache.
I would never presume to know what to give parents of a newborn because, well, I don’t have kids. I also like to think that being useful will be more gratefully remembered than handing the parents another onesie for a 3month old that the kid will outgrow in a week. Sometimes it’s fun to indulge and buy actual gifts for a baby or the parents. Knowing me, I’ll still probably give you a gift card to the pharmacy as well.
I thought the best way to show you what I’d give (or buy for myself) is to put it all together in a design board. P.S if you’re having a kid and you’ve invited me to celebrate in some way, shape, or form, you may or may not be getting something from here. Shh!

Have you heard of Uncommon goods? No? Not surprising. They’re an online retailer for home decor and household accessories. Chances are good, you’ve seen something of theirs and you just didn’t know it was from them. Over the past few months I’ve seen more and more of their content popping-up in homes and feeds I like, so when they asked me to work with them on a post I couldn’t resist!
I mean, who doesn’t love a company that offers interesting pieces at a decent price & works to create a sustainable company by creating a positive impact. Let’s talk about personalized gifts; the ones that make it look like your gift giving came up a notch and you got them more than a gift card. I figure you can’t go wrong with a customized print for their nursery. Sure, the style is specific, but unless they’re a designer or avid home decorator you likely won’t ruffle their feathers with something as cute as these animal prints from Stacey Bloomfield // here //.
Let’s talk Home Decor and the nursery in general. I’ve been told a million different stories about what’s needed in a nursery and what’s not. There are as many options as there are babies. Personally, I like decorating with pretty baskets; they’re a catch-all for toys, blankets and everything in between. In the past I’ve given mobiles as a group gift. They’re a great way to do a group gift that’s not a basket of diapers and blankets. I like to check with mom-to-be first to make sure it matches her style, or at the very least that’s on board with the idea. If you’ve been following along the blog for a while, you’ll know that with my office I’m being deliberate in my choices because eventually the space will convert to a nursery // here //. You’ll also know that I’ve spent like two weeks trying to decide whether to buy a new rug for the space. Finally, what if you’re invited to a kid’s 1st birthday party or some sort of party right after their born? Full disclosure I’ve never actually been invited to a “hooray we just had a baby” party because I can assume the parents are exhausted, but if it’s happening you should be prepared.
