You all know I love a good candle. Do any of you remember that horrific post I wrote 3 years ago about candles? I’m too embarrassed to even share the link as a throwback, but good god was it funny. It was me waxing lyrical about the candle light, dancing flames, soft glows, and alluring smells. Yada yada yada. All of that is still true, but this time I’m actually talking about candles that I have tried and tested and absolutely love. Have y’all ever heard of Salt Spring Island Candles?

I first discovered Salt Spring Island Candles at Blog Podium in 2015. There was a booth at the conference, and then they graciously gave us each one in our goodie bags. I have treasured and nursed that candle for 3 years y’all. I’ve picked up a few other scents along the way, but the hearth candle is everything that Christmas is about.
The company is run by an adorable husband and wife duo, and they make candles that smell like the goodness of Canada’s West coats. They even have one named after their daughter Anjali (which smells effing amazing).
If their adorable story hasn’t sold you, the scents will. If you’re like me, you need to start small before committing to a big candle, so you should totally do that. They sell little 4oz tins that are a great way to wet your whistle. You can then upgrade to the 8oz tins, or try the milk bottles (which have their own custom scents).
I tried the Sitka scent for the first time with this order and am in love! It’s wintery without being Christmasy – and that’s key. Don’t you find most scents are created for holidays, and there isn’t much beyond the generic vanilla, for the rest of the year? I do, and that’s why I love discovering the aroma inventory from companies I know and love.
Sitka is a blend of western red cedar + spruce + douglas fir scents, and all of their candles are hand poured with 100% essentials oils and 100% soy wax. It’s that goooood stuff yo.
I was also very interested in sampling the Anjali scent. They originally created it to raise funds for their daughter’s coding and robotics studies, but it was a knock-out so they continued making it. I am 100% about women in STEM, so this was a no brainer.
Salt Spring Island Candles are a nice little treat for yourself at any time of the year, but I especially love candles at this time of year when their warmth and light contributes to all my hygge feelings. While this shoot was 100% staged, it started out that way and then ended with me laying on the ground listening to Rod Stewart & Sly and The Family Stone. That’s a pretty good way to end the day if you ask me.
