Brushstroke Eggs

Today is my second take on contemporary Easter eggs – brushstroke eggs! If you missed the first one, check out my Glam Eggs. These ones are inspired by the Hailey Hand Painted Gourd Brushstroke lamps that are literally everywhere on Pinterest, Instagram and my social media feeds.

I was looking for something that wasn’t traditionally “Easter” yet funky enough that it could its own on one of my dinner tables. The brushstrokes are edgy, modern, and colourful. Although I’ve chosen jewel tones (all I’m missing in emerald green!) you could do these bad boys in black, gold and silver, shades of yellow or green, the list goes on!

Materials required

A dozen plastic (or real) eggs, available at the dollar store
Paint
Paint Brushes
Paper towel for the eggs to dry on

Instructions

Step 1: Start with clean and dry eggs. A quick pat with a moist towel will do the trick.

Step 2: Using a series of whimsical brushstrokes, paint one colour on each egg. Have fun, be messy, and don’t try to replicate anything.

If the paint runs out half way through a brushstroke, leave it be! It’s part of the look!

Do you recognize the colours? It’s the pink and runner-up purple from the small bathroom revamp I did earlier in January.

Step 3: Let dry. You’re not putting on gobs of paint so they should dry pretty quickly.

P.S. I tried my water colour pen on the eggs, and it created the beautiful blue eggs. I even tried doing some chinoiseries with them but failed horribly.

Step 4: Style and admire. I snagged some moss on sale at Michaels last year (on deep clearence ohhh yeah) and some little chicks from the dollar store.
