Home Office Makeover Update

Remember how I said I’m working on my home office? In case you missed it or your memory is short, you can catch-up // here //. I thought I’d pop in and give you guys a quick update on where we are with that! It’s been a busy few days, but I’ve managed to paint, build my storage cupboards, get most of the room where it needs to be. And now, for the details! Especially that lamp listing, you guys have been going crazy for that lamp.

I had my curtain panels sewn last weekend by the local seamstress. I had them made a bit long so that they pool nicely on the floor. It’ll also increase the likelihood that I can use them in another space without having to let them down. I actually snagged a sewing machine on the local sales groups during the holidays, but I didn’t want to attempt curtain panels just yet in case I totally ruined them. I have terrible luck with sewing projects, so expect to see some new ones as I try to learn and improve. Maybe one day I’ll get the bobbin to cooperate…

I’ll start with something smaller first though.

I also spent an inordane amount of time last week hmming and hawwing over which curtain rod to get. See, we bought a whack of curtain rods for our last PMQ and I’ve since sold most of them. They either didn’t work in the new place or didn’t match with the new vibe. I had also found a kick-ass set of gold ones from Umbra at Homesense, and couldn’t help myself. I just happened to forget to buy a 3rd one for my office.  I eventually settled on a matching rod from Umbra // here //  which was delivered last Friday. It was worth it for the ability to have a matching set in our next home. Everything is now up, and it feels great to finally have curtains in here.

My new office chairs turned up the day after my first post went live, and I love them! You can spot them in two posts // here // and // here //.  You can buy your own from Wayfair  // here//

If you’re also jonesing after that lamp, you can pick it up from Wayfair // here //

You can also spot one of my two new pillow cases. Therese Marie Designs and I connected through Instagram a few weeks ago over this photo // here //. After I gushed about my love of velvet and greek key trim, she offered to send me a pillow case or two. I am in heaven! If you like the one pictured you can buy it // here //. Unfortunately you’ll have to wait until my office reveal to see the other one!

I had been debating the purchase of a new rug. The one currently in here is “fine” but it doesn’t excite me or make me want to do a happy dance. It was in our living room for about 2 years, so it’s seen some action. I eventually decided not to get a new one just now, but only because after further examining our current one I can see glitter, paint, more glitter and lots of pet hair. I think that while this space remains a creative one, I’m better off not buying a new one. When the purpose for the space changes, so will the rug – you have my word! * Full disclaimer, my craft space does not get vacuumed as much as the main floor because I hated vacuuming in here with the previous layout. At this point I’m just holding-off until it’s done.

The final element of consideration in here is wall art. I’ve got a nice little collection so far, but if this move has taught me anything it’s that I have a lot of framed photos and things. Not all of them are quality, and busy gallery walls are no longer my thing. Instead, I’ve been looking around Etsy to see what I like and have actually purchased one or two so far. You can find Kate Moss looking cool as sin // here // & another piece I’m considering // here //.

I love how everything looks so far. The extra storage makes so much more sense, and I don’t have to stare at all my supplies, regardless of their state of organization. Not only that, but the new colour on the walls is divine. I loved the pistachio green that is I originally painted (also by Behr), but it wasn’t really working with the pink I had. I also did a terrible job painting this room the first time around so I was going to have to re-do it and fix all my mistakes. A two-birds-one-stone solution was to just re-paint everything, so I opted for a fresh colour in the process. Say hello to Perennial Green M410-7 by Behr // here //. It shows quite warm and very deep in person, and is providing a nice colour balance to the very warm tones in the master bedroom across the hall.
