Vintage Hotel Guest Keys

A couple of weeks ago I saw an image from @Sugar and Cloth in my Instagram feed that light my creative fires. I had been thinking of doing something like this for a while, but seeing her awesome hot pink business cards made me bite the bullet.

Instead of using vintage hotel key tags as business cards however, I’m using them as vintage hotel guest keys. I don’t know about you, but I have a couple of spare keys floating around; one with the dog walker, one with the cleaning lady, two with friends and so on and so forth. Instead of giving them a random key that is super forgettable – and easily confused with those other keys sitting in the drawer – I’m opting to give them pieces of art! Vintage Hotel Guest Keys that will stand out and look cute hanging on a key rack.

P.S. if the text on the tags looks edited it’s because I’ve edited them for privacy.

Instructions

Step 1: Start by assembling all the necessary materials. My vintage hotel key tags came about 2 weeks after I ordered them. The keys were cut at my local hardware store and I already had the tassels, but you can order them from a store on etsy or grab some at Michaels.

Step 2:  Separate the key ring and small ring from the original key chain. NB. I couldn’t find the rings on their own, so I purchased a set of them from Dollarama and then stripped them for their parts.

Step 3: Open the small ring using the pliers, to then attach the two tassels.

Make sure you close the ring properly or you’ll lose your tassels!

Step 4: Add the clasp and tassels to the key ring.

Step 5: This next step isn’t set in stone, but I wanted the key chains to look a certain way so I added the key tag behind the tassels, and the key in between.

Step 6: Admire! I’ve got enough now that I’ve even got a spare set kicking around for any out of town guests.

I just love them! I don’t know if it’s the tassels, or the purple or the fact that they were super easy. I’ll definitely be giving these are housewarming gifts to friends, and posting gifts to my army family as they leave.

Live boldly and colourfully y’all.
