You know how I love Krylon spray paint and colour, so it’s only normal that I make these DIY ombre margarita glasses in honour of my Cinco de Mayo celebrations. I showed you my DIY Bougie Pinata // here // and this week I’ve got a few more exciting things planned, but for now we’re focusing on a classic – margaritas.

If you’ve been following along on my IG stories, you know how much I love to hunt for barware at thrift stores. In all of my treasure hunting, I found and assembled a collection of “close enough” margarita glasses for a few dollars – the same goes for the lowballs. Because they weren’t exact matches, I wanted to unify them through colour and pattern (like I always do) and thought spray paint would be the best way.

Materials required to make DIY Ombre Margarita Glasses
- Glasses – pick a miss mash and make ’em look like they were deliberate.
- Krylon Spray Paint in Blue Ocean, Bahama Breeze, Gum Drop, Ballet Slipper
- Painter’s Tape
- Stuff for margaritas (like mix, ice, salts etc.)
Step 1: Start by wrapping the lip of the glasses in painters’ tape. While spray paint is awesome, I’m still not sure if it’s cool to ingest small amounts of it, so you’re better off by just avoiding it.
Step 2: Take your gasses to a well ventilated area (aka outside) to spray paint. Start by adding the lightest colour first. You’ll add the darker shade on top later. Remember to spray about 25cm away from the glasses in a sweeping motion. Once you’re done, let them stand and dry for about an hour.
Step 3: Take the darker colour (in this case Bahama Sea and Gum Drop), and spray it onto either the bottom or top half of the glass. You’re not trying to achieve the same kind of coverage as with the bottom coat, so don’t worry if it isn’t perfect – you’re going for a gradient! Let those dry until they’re no longer tacky to the touch.
Step 4: Bring ’em back in and peel the tape off the lip! While you’re at it, give them a good wash in the sink once you’re done.
Step 5: Now it’s time to mix up some drinks and serve! I went for a classic and made simple margaritas both ways – the slushie, and on the rocks.

I mean, how slick do these look?! I’m glad I chose to do two different colour schemes for the different glasses. I think the blues and pinks are a perfect neutralizer for the greens and yellows of the margarita. DIY Ombre Margarita Glasses for the win!
