We *ahem Dan, built a DIY MCM Sliding door for our newly renovated basement. I promise to unveil the whole thing one da, but in the meantime I’m teasing you with various projects. We made this one using our Kreg track horses and Kreg Rip-cut Jig.

This project had the potential to be super complicated, but by using the Rip-cut jig and track horses, it literally became a 2 cut project. You heard me right, 2 cuts! I’ll have a video showing how, shortly, but in the meantime here’s the finished project, the plans, and material/cut list.

When I told Dan it was finally time to photograph the door, he told me he wanted two things: a photo with Linda (the chicken), and a photo with Bruce. It looks pretty amazing eh? He wanted to be near his favourite things, and June happened to be at daycare.
We made ours for just under 400$ including the door hardware. The Kreg Rip cut jig and track horses were integral to the ease and success of this project. I’m sure you could find a way without, but honestly, save yourself the hassle and get them.
Cut/material list for MCM sliding door
For a door exactly this size, you’ll need:
- one 4 x 8 pannel of 3/4 sanded ply
- 4 1x2x8 for the banding around the door
- fifteen 1x2x8 for the slats
- Wood glue
- nail gun
- sliding door hardware
- Wood Stain
- Kreg Track horses
- Kreg Rip-cut Jig
- Circular Saw
You’ll see in the video, how we used the Kreg track horses as the work station for this project, but also how we used the rip-cut jig to make this the easiest project to assemble. Stay tuned for the video showcasing everything in action!
We used simply but joints on the framing, there was no structural reason to mitre them. The slat design is timeless, and evocative of some retro room dividers. More importantly it will do the job of keeping the noise out when we eventually entertain again. With the open stairwell to the basement, and the lack of carpet now, noise will travel.
DIY MCM Sliding Door
I love it. The hardware we chose is likely intended for something more country or rustik, but how it is here seems super appropriate. It’s the right touch of masculine.
Bruce is very handsomely posing on the Eames chair in front of the door. We closed it for the sake of photos so that you’re not looking at a stairwell and some stairs.
We discussed it after the fact, and we don’t think we could have timed this photo better, if we tried. Boots, Bruce and Dan.
