DIY Masked Portrait Gallery

These days when I wrap a shoot I say to myself “that is my favourite shoot to date!” and I mean it each time! But with my DIY Masked Portrait Gallery I really mean it. My collection of funky portraits got a seasonal update using just scraps of black vinyl I had leftover from other projects. It’s such an easy update, and it’s something you can do for yourself in time for Halloween.

For this project all you need is portraits, black vinyl, and frames. I’ve got a variety of prints in this portrait gallery, but I’m linking to the ones you can buy here: Princess Leopold , Cybil, Catty Cathy, Eleanor, & June. The others I’ve had for a while, thrifted or bought already framed.

How to Make Vinyl Portrait Masks

You ready for this? because it’s super simple. Cut a rectangle that fits over the eyes. Fold it in half, cut a cat-eye shape, cut two slits, and voila!

In case you were wondering, I subscribe to the “let your nails grow out until there’s no nail polish left” school of manicure maintenance. But that’s mainly because I haven’t found the nail polish remover in our boxes and can’t be bothered to buy more.

Making A DIY Masked Portrait Gallery

Because I apply the vinyl to the glass on my frames, I’m not worried about ruining the print once I’m ready to remove the mask. As far as displaying them goes, I thought a fun boudoir gallery wall was in order, and since mine isn’t set-up at home yet – I made one in the studio!

Also, for the record: I refuse to re-touch my legs, so you’re getting them bumps, hair, cellulite and all! Enjoy it! This is what authentic content looks like.
