I am kicking off a week of Cinco de Mayo posts with possibly my most amazing project yet – my DIY Bougie Piñata. Bougie? you ask – that’s right, this girl is #extra and I love it. She is so good, I am naming her in honour RPDR’s S10 first eliminated Queen Vanjie Mateo // here //.

I bought a traditional piñata at our local party store, and thought it looked a little plain. Using some flair I had kicking around the studio (faux florals, tassels, pom pom, ribbons etc.) I gave her an upgrade she won’t soon forget – including a cat eye. Get it!
Kween Vanjie is here to slay – like her namesake. She you know her cat eye is on fleek, and her ribbons and tassels are fierce. She could maybe work on her padding though. At least we know she’s painting for the back row.

Materials required for a DIY Bougie piñata
- Regular piñata – available online // here // and in most party stores
- Faux florals
- Floral Wire + wire cutters
- Ribbons – I used some scraps I had kicking around the studio
- Tinsel Tassels from Woman Shops World
- Small Pom Poms from Woman Shops World
- Raffia Pom Poms from Woman Shops World – or DIY them like I did
- Paper Part Hat – I used one from a batch I bought // here //
- Black felt + Scissors + Glue Gun
Step 1: Start by making the wire collar for the piñata. I gave mine a little bit of extra leeway so that I add things without it ripping. While you’re at it, wind in the two floral buds, and then attach it securely.
Step 2: Cut out two cat eye flicks from black felt, and then hot glue them in place using a hot glue gun. I wanted to give my girl a look that was on fleek
Step 3: Using the pom poms and floral wire, create a little dangly part to attach to the collar. You can then do the same with the lovely tassels.
Step 4: Hot glue the party hat to the back of the piñata’s head (I didn’t want to fit it around the ears), and add a cute ribbon for a last bit of flair.
Step 5: Fill with candy! The dollar store is a great place to find all of cool little candies, might as well make it fun! And then cover up the hole with some big raffia pom poms, attached to the collar.
Also, let’s talk about how fab this tinsel gold chandy is! I snagged it al Michaels from the new Martha Stewart Collection. Both the chandy AND my DIY Bougie piñata will be appearing in the remaining posts this week, and I’ll maybe crack it open on Friday… maybe.

I think the tinsel tassels are a really fab choice for this DIY project. They have just enough shimmer for the piñata, and match the tone of the chandy perfectly. What more could I ask for from a collar for a paper donkey?!
