Did you love my All Hallows’ Eve Tablescape as much as I did? // here // It was such a blast to put together, now i get to recreate it over the weekend for our actual All Hallows’ Eve dinner. Part of the tablescape are the fun DIY astrology coasters that I created from Rifle Paper Co. fabric I got on Fabric.com. The other stand-out was the skeleton bar towel that I put together to help dry-off the beers as they come out of the ice tub.
I also created napkins using the bone-like stripes aka the Queen Of We’en Stripe Ecru, but those don’t require much of a tutorial. If you need one you can view that tutorial // here //.

For the DIY Astrology Coasters I fell in love with the pattern online and wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with it, but I knew I needed it! I order half a yard and figure it would all sort itself-out. I had originally thought that napkins would be a good option, but I wanted people to see the pattern, and not have it hidden beneath the table half the time. As I was putting together the tablescape I realizedI needed appopriate coasters and then in the space of 5 mins went from square coasters, to circular ones, to adding the fun fringe.
When inspiration strikes you gotta go with it eh?

Materials for DIY Astrology Coasters
- 1/2 yard of Rifle Paper Co. Menagerie Lawn Celestial Metallic Navy
- Scissors
- Black felt
- Gold Decorative Fringe (or not)
- Sewing pins
- Sewing machine (although you could do these by hand, it would just take a while)
Step 1: Start by cutting giant squares from the fabric. I then cut them into lose circles around the zodiac. If I wanted to do square coasters I would just trim them to a neat square.
Step 2: Using your pins, attach a piece of black felt to the back, and place the gold fringe between the two layers. It will take a minute of two do properly, but it’s well worth it. The more work you do now, the less you have to do while sewing.
Step 3: Using a back thread (for the top thread and the bobbin) start sewing the contour of the zodiac, taking great care to ensure taht the gold fringe is neatly caught between the two layers.

Step 4: Once you’re done sewing, trim the black felt to a neat circle. And then repeat steps 1-3 for as many coasters as you want!
I did two with fringe, and two without (the 4th isn’t pictured here). Now I have a set of 4 and am ready for a standard cocktail hour. I absolutely love how they look!
While not technically spooky, I think the DIY Astrology Coasters are definitely on theme for Halloween, and could even be used come NYE!
For the skeleton bar towel, it was also love at first sight with the pattern, but I had originally planned on doing a table runner with it. Once I got the paper doilies from Afloral though, I decided against it.
A bar towel is something that’s actually quite handy, but most people forget to include one in their set-up during bigger events. If you’ve got any type of cooler set-up and people won’t be able to wipe their wet hands on their outfit (i.e BBQ weather), it’s a courtesy you should extend to people who will be chilling beverages.
You hang it off the handle of the cooler and let people dry-off their bottles before imbibing.

Materials for Skeleton Bar Towel
- 1/2 yard of Queen Of We’en Hands Off Black/Cream fabric
- Linen fabric – I chose the black stripes –> not an exact match but this one works // here //
- Sewing pins
- Sewing Machine
- Scissors
Step 1: Cut your two fabrics to matching sizes. I used an existing teal towel to guide my sizing choice.
Step 2: You’ll be backing the two fabrics onto each other, so make sure you’ve got them the right way out, and pin them together.
Step 3: Start sewing! I used black thread on top and the bottom, but you could always use a fun fabric. I ended-up essentially making a pillow case, except I sewed all four edges in a straight shot.
Once that’s done it’s as simple as placing it near your cooler! In this case I tied it around the loop on our cooler bin.
And there you have it! Some super slick Spooky entertaining table linens. The DIY astrology coasters and the skeleton bar towel are going to be staples of my seasonal entertaining, I can tell.
My head is already full of ideas for how I can use them and what else I can do with the fabric scraps.
