If you follow me on Instagram and Facebook you’ll have seen this image on wednesday. That’s right, it’s my blog anniversary!
That’s right! In early septembre PMQ for two will be celebrating a full two years on the internet. A blogaversary, blog anniversary, milestone, whatever you want to call it. The 2nd blog anniversary is giving me a nice occasion to reminisce, and wax lyrical about my life with the blog, so humour me as I mark the moment with some thoughts:
If you’ve been here since the beginning you’ll know that I’ve gone through a couple of reboots since I started the blog back in September 2013, and it has evolved into what it is today with very deliberate steps, or at least I hope it looked that way. I’ve actually been stumbling around trying to figure it out since day one, and only now seem to have a handle on it. Can you tell?
When I first started the blog it was awkward, I felt like Bambi learning to walk. By the time I got the hang of it I had too much on the go and had to put the blog on pause. When I came back to the blog a couple of months later I upgraded the blog and gave it a logo, a new template, new energy, and I haven’t stopped since. This past spring I changed platforms and moved from wordpress.com to worpress.org and couldn’t be happier. I was looking for more control over the blog, and I got it.
This blog has given me so much in a short amount of time.
For starters, It’s given me a reason to learn how to use power tools properly. It’s not that I was scared of them, I just never had to use them before. There aren’t many occasions for a city girl from Toronto to learn how to use much more than a hammer and nails. But living the life we lead, where we live, means that independence and the power to create gave me the keys to my happiness. Learning how to build and make things with my own hands has been liberating in so many ways. I encourage you all to learn how to safely use the power tools in your house, if only for the re-assurance that you can do so!
The blog is my creative outlet. I’m happiest when I’m creating, buzzing away on my most recent idea. I was in dire need of a blog back in September 2013, and looking at other peoples’ blogs light a fire under my creative ass. I wouldn’t have been happy just reading other blogs, I need to have one of my own. I enjoy being creative, I enjoy shaping the world around me, and I enjoy making things with my own two hands (and maybe DH’s).
I enjoy the opportunities that blogging has provided. I’ve made new friends around the world, learned many things about business and running and online brand, and I’m taking steps toward making my blog work for me. Partnerships with brands are how I keep the lights on here at PMQ for two, so your continued support of my partners is intricate to the survival of the blog.
Speaking of which, several brands that I’ve worked with over the past year have generously offered products, discounts, and gift certificates to their stores to help celebrate my blog anniversary.
I’ll be featuring one per week for the month of August starting monday August 3rd, so stay tuned for details about how you can win!
As an FYI and a shout-out to fellow Canadian Home Decor and DIY bloggers, Colleen over at Lemon Thistle is also celebrating a blog anniversary.
How would you celebrate your blog anniversary?
