I’ve wanted to do some PMQ style updates for a while, and it may seem like I’m on a continually rotating urge to re-do things, because I am. My tastes are always evolving, as is my know-how, my awareness of projects and new style trends, and the funds available to allow this all!
1. Out with the blue, in with the green!
When I first began decorating the Q I had a manic passion for robin’s egg blue, and any and all off-shoots in the colour pallet. I don’t think I can quite impress upon you how much blue stuff we had. It all started with the blue curtains in our dinning room, which I found at HomeSense on our DIT. Although I love them very much, I have a use for them elsewhere now! Not to mention, I’ve got an urge to put emerald green in our dinning room. Because it’s out of the question to acquire a large emerald green buffet (for the moment at least), I’m going to start “small” with curtains. Bellow are some of the images I’m drawing inspiration from, which you can find on the PMQ for Two pinterest page here.
2. Update the entryway lamp
Back in October when it finally clicked that we needed some lighting in our dinning room that wasn’t candles, or the corner lamp, I purchased a hastily chosen lamp from Bouclair mason. It’s perfectly fine, it’s nice even, but nothing too exciting. I think our entry-way should make more a statement, and since it’s a big part of the dinning room, I’m going to update it! I’m liking the idea of a big mercury glass lamp, or maybe something in a solid colour. Either way, it has to be big, bold, and punctuate the room.
3. Living room
Our living room is torn between the styles of old, and our emerging desire for an even more mature look. Some of our furniture choices from earlier days are starting to haunt us. Before we had an aesthetic, heck, before we even lived together! I’ve had an IKEA chair for about 5 years now, and our couch was purchased at the Gagetown Canex with an “old boys club” vibe in mind. We do not live in an old boys club. As much as I would love a new couch, we’re going to have to settle for smaller changes.
I’m hoping to get a slipcover for the IKEA chair (in dark blue nonetheless), get bigger and more dominating picture frames for our animal prints, a big mirror to put above my desk (in place of the cork board), and get a new carpet for our space. We received a beautiful persian rug for our wedding last summer, but the dog is slowly trying to destroy it. I’m thinking of replacing it with a Target purchase from the Nate Berkhaus line. Big things to come in the living room for sure!
4. The bathroom
I’ve kept things fairly simple in our bathroom from day one. It’s a small space, with an opaque window. It gets tons of light, but because it’s a PMQ bathroom and very small, too much colour can overwhelm a space. Right now the bathroom is predominantly white, with crystal and glass accents. We have a cute little print with hints of blue, and our bath towels are blue and white stripes.
The bath towels need to be replaced; they’re stained and look kind of gross, even when clean.
I want to add a little tray to hold all the jars with various swabs, Q-tips etc. Something mirrored to help reflect the light.
I’ll keep you guys posted on my process, as with the last list! Stay tuned.
