We don’t have kids, just a pooch and two kitties. I have to work to keep myself a bit more occupied while my main “charge” is away! I’ll also have sole access to our only car. JOY! THE POSSIBILITIES!! OH EM GEE
I’ve got a laundry list a mile long of things I want to do, a budget I cannot and will not abuse. In an attempt to respect the time-frame, and our budget, I’m laying it all out before you! I’m hoping that this can help keep me honest in regards to how I go about this.
We have 85$ a paycheque set aside for “other,” meaning anything we want to! pet projects or other.
Before hubby is back, I’ll manage 3 paycheques for our home, meaning I have 255$ TOTAL to spend.
Below, in the order of which I hope to do them, are the projects on my list.
1. DIY headboard for master bed
I’ve wanted a plush headboard with nail-head trim for a year or two now. I’ve known I was going to DIY it, for as long. HOWEVER, DH is not super motivated, so it’ll be the first thing on my list. I’ve already got a fabric picked-out, and have recede the materials I’ll need. It will probably take the first “other” fund, but at least it will be done!
2. Re-arrange dinning-room: art layout and new lampshades
I love the map prints in the dinning room, but I think they could be placed a bit better. I may even add something to the mix!
I’d also like to put a new lampshade on the lamp behind our bar. We got the entire thing at the Canac for about 10$ last summer, so I think it’s time to put some love into it.
3. Re-arrange gallery wall in stairway
We currently have a family tree style gallery wall in the stairway. I’d like to move a mirror set, currently behind our bar, into the mix. It would help reflect light from upstairs/downstairs.
This top one is closer to the angles and space we have to work with. The one below is what it would look like from the dinning room.
4. Re-vamp kitchen art: out with the old, and in with the new!
The pieces currently in the kitchen, although lovely, could perhaps serve a purpose elsewhere, or wait for their time in the sun, another day! DH’s sister did them a couple of years ago. They’re no longer in-line with the aesthetic of the kitchen.
I’m loving the idea of a citrus print gallery wall, like the one pictured here. I may even end up buying/DIYing this fact thing.
It will of course require some dollarama frames, and potentially meddling with the curtains and seat cushions. Those were made with fabric from two houses ago, and I’m getting tired of the pattern.
5. Move steamer trunk to basement
The guest room is currently home to a massive steamer trunk that DH’s grandfather built. I love it, but it doesn’t fit with the space or the look. DH is planning on re-doing the basement when he gets back, so it’ll be right at home there. I’ll be heading to my favourite thrift stores to look for a table or chair to fill the space a bit better.
5. Do SOMETHING with our extra TV.
It’s beautiful and I would love to set it up in the master bedroom. HOWEVER, we don’t do TV in the bedroom. Maybe something for the kitchen? I would need a media box to make watching TV other than through direct link-up, so that may have to wait a while (media boxes ain’t cheap).
I love this idea, but something tells me I would have to wall-mount it, or stick it in a corner.
6. DIY some new art
For our bathroom and living-room! I love all of the pieces below, so I’ll either have to make or buy them.
What are your projects over this EX? How will you stay busy?
