This year we’re really not doing much for easter, but I still feel the urge to decorate some easter eggs. Sadly, with no one to see them but you guys, I’ve opted to scour the pages of Pinterest in search of some great options that should consider if you haven’t done any for yourself yet.
I’m proffering-up three classics with modern twists for your easter decor or table this year.
I know original content is always best, but when I tell you guys what I’m up to you’ll understand why I’m doing this.
Kirsten Rickert has taken some beautiful photos of her naturally dyed eggs. For a better look at what it takes to make each colour, click through to her website.
I’m kind of in love with the blue and purple eggs, but I think the end product is definitely worth it, especially if you’re looking for more of a country feel on your table this year. BONUS: no artificial dyes.
Gold Foiled eggs
These are super decadent and remind of me King Midas. You would do these by dying the eggs whatever cloud you chose, and then brushing on gold leaf – available at any craft store like Omer de Serres or Michaels. For gold leaf brushing techniques, the internet is your oyster! But a simple dry paint brush will do the trick.
This image is from Martha Stewart’s website, so be sure to check it out for the exact DIY.
Southern living has a nice how-to for speckled eggs, although you don’t need to visit the site to discern what food dye and a tooth-brush with some old paint can do.
These are of course actual eggs, but you can achieve a similar look with some ingenuity.
As an alternative to using real eggs, consider the plastic ones you hide chocolate in. If you glue them close, once you add a layer of spray-paint as a base, you can paint and deck them out as you wish! This is a great option if you want the kids to get involved, as the eggs won’t spoil and you can pack them away for another year.
I have never been able to blow-out the contents of an egg by drilling holes in it, so unfortunately it’s never been an option for me. If you can do it, share your secret with me! I’ve tried a dozen ways and just end up breaking the egg, or with a headache from blowing so much.
Happy easter weekend to all of you! What will you be doing?
